Start with your existing room
Send photographs of every wall, approximate room dimensions and your postcode. Explain whether you want to keep the layout or move the toilet, basin, bath or shower. Changes to the position of fittings can change the plumbing and making-good work.
Removal and preparation
Check whether the quotation includes removing old fittings, tiles and flooring, taking waste away and preparing the walls and floor. Concealed damage may only become clear after removal; agree how unexpected work will be discussed and priced.
Plumbing, ventilation and electrical work
Identify the fittings being connected and any changes to pipework. Discuss the extractor, lighting and specialist electrical work required for the agreed layout. A bath-to-shower conversion needs a clear tray, enclosure, drainage and wall-finishing specification.
Tiling and finishing
Specify which walls will be tiled, tile sizes, floor finish, trim, grout and decoration. Ask whether substrate preparation and the agreed shower waterproofing system are included. Large tiles, patterned layouts and awkward corners affect the work involved.
Who supplies each item?
List the toilet, basin, vanity, taps, shower, tray, enclosure, tiles and accessories. Confirm whether supply is included or whether you will order them. Share product details before buying so dimensions and installation requirements can be checked.
Compare the same scope
A single total is difficult to compare when quotations cover different work. Look for an agreed scope, exclusions, payment stages and programme. Tell us about access and whether this is your only bathroom so practical arrangements can be discussed.
